Review: Lake House

Lake House the perfect getaway hotel?

After spending a couple of days in Melbourne, we decided to take a two-hour drive to Daylesford for a two-night stay at a hotel with gorgeous pictures on their website and good reviews on Tripadvisor/Google.

Unfortunately, upon arrival, our room wasn’t ready, so we started with lunch. However, the lunch menu was the same as the dinner menu, with no daily specials. The lobby, restaurant, and lounge area with 5-year-old magazines suggested that the hotel needed some love. But we had seen the rooms on the internet and they looked amazing…

We were extremely disappointed to find out that Lake House was a far cry from what was advertised on their website. The room was dirty, dated, and covered in spiderwebs. It was clear that the room hadn’t been cleaned in a long time. We complained and were offered a room change.

The new room was better, but still unclean. When we saw the greasy TV remote control, we knew we’d had enough. We spent one night and then checked out.

Never trust a hotel’s website with beautiful pictures!

Room type

Waterfront Suite was initially offered, but the staff also offered a complimentary upgrade to a Spa Villa called The Retreat. However, we declined this offer because upon inspection, we found that the Spa Villa was in worse condition than the room we had originally booked.
