Petrus Restaurant Review

Valentine Dinner at Petrus - A Toast to Love.

We chose Petrus for our Valentine’s dinner because it was very close to our hotel, and we had special memories there from the first time we visited London together. Thanks to Paul, the concierge at The Berkeley.

Yes, it was romantic, even if the interior was a little dated and the food is what it is on a day like this. We knew beforehand what to expect that evening: a set menu and a dining room filled with tables for two.

Cornish Turbot – Tendersteam Broccoli – Clams – Sauce Vin Jaune

That means a bit more “running around” and stress among the service staff. One thing we discussed was the two seating times; why not be considerate to the staff and just have one seating time? They probably also have loved ones they wish to spend a late night with. And Gordon probably does not need the extra money from the last seating time. “Greedy Gordon” was popping up in our heads.

Most of the couples seemed unhappy being out dining together, making the room quite quiet. Not for us; we started with a glass of Gosset Celebris, a beautiful champagne from the year 2002. An exceptional vintage, pure love.

Lobster Raviolo – Heritage Carrots – Black Truffle

Was there any standout dish? No, but it was not bad. On a day like this, where the dishes fly out of the kitchen, some love and attention are missing. So, Greedy Gordon, next time please do only one seating, reducing stress in the restaurant and in the kitchen, and increasing quality for both the customers and the staff. Kudos to the ones who booked a table of four and the rose when leaving the restaurant.

Sorbet – Passion Fruit – Coconut

We thought the pairing was too expensive. We chose a bottle of Pinot Noir from Burn Cottage.
