Review: Amanzoe

Checking in at the gods' hideaway

Amanzoe is a haven of tranquility. A breathtaking retreat located about a 3-hour car drive from Athens. While a helicopter ride is also available for those seeking a quicker journey, but the husband preferred the scenic route… As we arrived, the grandeur of the resort immediately evoked a sense of stepping into a Greek temple, reminiscent of the Acropolis itself. With panoramic views of the Aegean Sea and the picturesque countryside adorned with rolling hilltops, Amanzoe captures the essence of natural beauty. Even the reception area had these receptionists dressed like Greek goddesses. We were stunned by its beauty.

This is even before we had seen our room; sorry, they do not have rooms, only Pavilions and Villas. Where the Villas are more like mini-hotels. Nevertheless, the pavilions are truly amazing, except for the ridiculous plastic bottles in the shower from a “One Dollar Store”. All the pavilions have almost the same layout. Our recommendation is to go for the pavilions with a mountain view for a less crowded feeling. And the view is even more fantastic, in our opinion

We had five days booked here. On the fourth day, the husband took a shower and came out, saying, “Let’s extend our stay!” He clearly did not want to leave this paradise. After a powwow discussion, we decided to stay a few more nights. We rebooked the airline tickets, adding an extra night in Athens, and so on.

However, during the discussion, we realized that after four days, the menu options started repeating themselves like a broken record. It’s possible that when we visited in late May and the kitchen was still in hibernation mode. Nonetheless, as guests at this divine location, we had anticipated better consistency in the food and a wider variety of menu choices.

The Achilles' heel of Amanzoe

In Amanzoe’s case, it is food and beverage. Even though Amanzoe offers a unique and exceptional experience, the F&B could definitely benefit from improvements.

A few examples:

  • Nama, the service, while generally attentive, could benefit from a more strategic approach. The constant circulation and hovering around the guests create unnecessary stress.

  • In-room dining have problem to deliver hot food. No one likes soggy fries and a cold burger.

  • No pree-heated plates in The Restaurant/In-room dining also knives are sharp as a wooden butter knifes.

  • The markups on the wines are just ridiculous, except for the Greek ones.

We can make the list looong but it is not our job. That we leave it up to the management.

Housekeeping team

The Cleanliness Commandos

Every time you leave the Pavilion, they send in a cleanup team that resembles something out of an intense American action movie, erasing any trace of mess as if it were a murder scene. When you return, the place is immaculate.

They have an eye for detail, even noticing when we tape over the light control panel (you know, those annoying small lights when the lights is out) and promptly replacing it with a better solution.

Bedroom Amanzoe

One last thing

The Amanzoe bathrobe is truly exceptional. It’s incredibly fluffy and feels like wrapping oneself in clouds. A no brainer to buy and bring home.
