Review: Restaurant Yank Sing

Yank Sing: A San Francisco Dim Sum Institution.

We almost missed our reservation time at Yank Sing. We were on the Hop-On Hop-Off bus, which took forever. So we jumped off, and thankfully, an Uber is never far away in San Francisco. Yank Sing, a popular dim sum restaurant in San Francisco since 1958, is known for its rolling carts with different dishes. Just point at what you want when the cart stops at your table.

We were about to sit down at the table when the first cart rolled by with dumplings. This is a great place for a quick bite at lunchtime, but reservations are required. It’s popular with locals and tourists alike.

We started out with the beef skewers, which were superb. However, our second dish, the spring rolls, could have been better. Our impression is that the courses were either great or… We missed having some green sides on the carts for the rest of the dishes.

There was a menu with a few bigger dishes that we could have ordered, but the rolling carts are their thing and concept.

We do recommend Yank Sing, but be sure to make a reservation. We don’t think it’s the best dim sum in the city, but it’s still worth a visit.
