Review: Hotel Siam Kempinski

Siam Kempinski Hotel was our first hotel stop in Thailand

We were greeted by the grand entrance of Siam Kempinski and the friendly smiles of the red-clad staff.

We originally booked a Cabana duplex room situated next to the pool, providing easy access for a refreshing dip. Unfortunately, there were two deal-breakers with the room. Firstly, it had a moldy smell which can be expected in rooms near the pool.

We requested to see another room, but the second one reeked of cigarette smoke. Due to these issues, we abandoned the Cabana rooms and opted for an Executive Suite in a nearby wing.

About the hotel

The Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok is a five-star escape that manages to pull off both traditional Thai flair and modern luxury without looking like it is trying too hard. Smack in the centre of Bangkok, it has the Siam Paragon shopping mall attached via a covered walkway, and the BTS Skytrain is just a short stroll away—handy for those who fancy sightseeing or retail therapy without breaking a sweat.

There are 397 rooms and suites, many with balconies overlooking tropical gardens and lagoon-style pools that look like they belong in a resort rather than the middle of a capital city. One of the highlights is Sra Bua by Kiin Kiin, a Michelin-starred restaurant that adds a bit of fine-dining sparkle to the hotel’s trio of food and drink venues.

The spa and health club are proper sanctuaries, not just an afterthought thrown in for the brochure. Whether you are jet-lagged, stressed, or just enjoy being pampered, this is where you unwind.

Business and events are covered too, with slick meeting rooms and event spaces for everything from board meetings to big weddings. The hotel also offers free WiFi, a very efficient air conditioning system (blessedly strong in Bangkok’s heat), and a surprisingly thoughtful touch—mosquito repellent cream in the bathroom cabinet.

Add a complimentary minibar stocked with drinks and snacks, a calm atmosphere, and genuinely attentive staff who speak excellent English, and you have got one of Bangkok’s best hotels. An urban oasis with just the right amount of polish.

In Conclusion

While the hotel certainly impresses on paper—with its grand design, prime location, and long list of amenities—it misses the mark on warmth and personal connection. It feels more like a polished luxury complex than a place that remembers your name or makes you feel truly looked after.

The convenience of having shopping malls next door is hard to fault, but it also adds to the slightly impersonal, commercial feel. Our stay was perfectly fine, but not memorable. We do not plan to return.
