Review: The Fat Duck

The Fat Duck a playful adventure!

We made a reservation for a late lunch at 1:30 pm at The Fat Duck, a renowned culinary gem nestled in the charming village of Bray, Berkshire. Upon arrival, we immediately soaked in the restaurant’s intimate and inviting atmosphere, noting that most of the few tables were already bustling with delighted guests. If you’re keen on surprises, securing the first available lunch or dinner slot is wise to avoid any spoilers of the gastronomic journey ahead.

The Fat Duck, established in 1995 by the celebrated chef Heston Blumenthal, is much more than a restaurant; it’s an institution that marries taste with art and science in its culinary creations. With its three Michelin stars glowing brightly since 2005, the restaurant promises an experience that tantalizes all senses, blending impeccable taste with a dash of whimsy.

Despite its global acclaim, The Fat Duck maintains a cozy charm, with its small yet elegantly arranged space. The tables, though closely set, create an ambiance of warmth and conviviality. We were particularly lucky to be seated at a round table by the window, a spot we’d heartily recommend for its lovely view and slightly more private feel.

As we embarked on our meal, it became clear that The Fat Duck is dedicated to surprising and enchanting its guests, offering dishes that are as visually arresting as they are delicious. The restaurant’s commitment to innovation and excellence is clearly evident, making every visit a unique adventure into the possibilities of fine dining.

In the quaint setting of Bray, The Fat Duck stands out as a beacon of culinary creativity, inviting diners from all over to explore its playful and meticulously crafted menu. Whether it’s your first visit or one of many, the restaurant ensures a memorable journey that goes beyond mere dining, making each meal a celebration of gastronomic artistry.

From the moment we entered the restaurant until we left, it was a complete joy. The only thing missing was being handed a balloon as we departed.

Where to stay and to get there

Coworth Park. A short ride with a taxi. And do not make the same mistake as us. We booked dinner at the hotel on the same day. One-star Michelin, but if you are up for another eight dishes, go ahead 🙂
