Review: El Olivo

Restaurant El Olivo in Deià

Our birthday dinner at El Olivo was set in the beautiful Belmond La Residencia hotel, located in the historic village of Deià. Upon arrival, we found the restaurant to be full but eerily quiet.

The lack of energy and buzz in a restaurant is never a good sign. Unfortunately, the service was chaotic, and the headwaiter seemed to have no control over the brigade, resulting in two waiters doing all the work to prevent the restaurant from sinking completely.

To make matters worse, we witnessed a salt-baked fish being taken back and forth to different tables like a drunk sailor, which was not a pretty sight. The two hardworking waiters struggled throughout the night, receiving incorrect instructions repeatedly on which dish went to which table. They were the real heroes of the night, not the food. While the food was not terrible, it was also not memorable.
