Review: Restaurant Trivet in London

Review Update: Trivet, Now Boasting Two Michelin Stars

Trivet, a Michelin-starred restaurant located in Bermondsey, London, is renowned for its contemporary approach to fine dining. Co-owned by Jonny Lake, the former head chef at The Fat Duck, and Isa Bal, the former head sommelier at The Fat Duck and Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, Trivet has carved out a niche for itself in London’s competitive culinary scene. The interior of Trivet exudes elegance and understatement, prioritizing natural materials like wood and stone. An open kitchen adds a theatrical element to the dining experience, allowing guests to observe the chefs at work.

During our last visit, the standout dish was undoubtedly the potato mille-feuille with sake ice cream, showcasing a creative and delightful interplay of flavors. Despite this, our experience was a mix of highs and lows. On the positive side, the flavors across the menu were good, and the service was notably friendly and attentive. However, we felt that Trivet, at that time, did not fully meet the expectations typically associated with a Michelin-starred establishment, more resembling a very good neighborhood restaurant.

Since then, Trivet has not only continued to uphold its commitment to quality and innovation but has also significantly enhanced its offerings, recently being awarded two Michelin stars. This remarkable achievement reflects the restaurant’s evolution and commitment to exceeding the standards of fine dining. The accolade further cements Trivet’s position in the culinary world, recognizing the exceptional talent and dedication of Jonny Lake and Isa Bal.

In Summary

Despite Trivet’s ascent to a two Michelin-star status, our previous visit—when it held one star—left us unsure of its ability to deliver on the expected Michelin standard. This achievement certainly marks significant growth and recognition. However, our decision to return is tempered by past experiences, leaving us uncertain about revisiting, even in light of its enhanced accolades.
